Colour Selection for Security Doors and Window Screens

Seconline Colour Selector Seconline Colour Selector

Choosing the right colour for your security door or window screen is an important decision. It affects the overall look of your home and how well the door integrates with existing finishes. At SecOnline, we offer a wide range of standard colours, along with custom powder coating options to suit almost any exterior.

Standard colours and powder coating options

We offer 18 standard frame colours, as well as a woodgrain option. These colours are carefully selected to suit most Australian homes and architectural styles.

If you require a specific colour, custom powder coating is available across most of our security door and window screen ranges. This allows you to match your doors exactly to your home’s existing finishes.

Please note that powder coating is an additional service and may extend manufacturing time by approximately 3–5 business days. It is also not available on Diamond + Fly products.

Lock and hinge colour limitations

Locks and hinges are available in a limited range of colours, including black, Primrose, Paperbark, and white. If you choose a frame colour outside of these options, black hardware will be supplied as standard.

Hardware components cannot be powder coated. This means black locks and hinges are often the best and most practical choice, particularly for sliding security doors.

Most aluminium sliding doors already use black handles, so black hardware on your security door will typically complement the existing design.

Matching your security door colour

A common approach is to match your security door frame to one of the following:

  • Existing window frames

  • Door frames or jambs

  • Gutters and downpipes

  • Garage doors

  • Exterior cladding or brickwork

Matching these elements helps create a cohesive and balanced appearance.

Alternatively, selecting a contrasting colour can create a more modern or architectural look. This works particularly well with contemporary homes.

Black frames and stainless steel mesh

316 marine grade stainless steel mesh is naturally black. Pairing this mesh with a black frame creates a clean, seamless appearance.

This combination is one of the most popular choices, as it delivers a modern look while minimising visual contrast between the frame and mesh.

It also ensures hardware, hinges, and mesh all align visually.

Heritage and architectural colour combinations

Some homes benefit from more traditional or heritage colour schemes. Popular heritage combinations include colours such as:

  • Heritage Red

  • Manor Red

  • Primrose

  • Hawthorn Green

These colours can complement older homes or create a distinctive architectural feature.

When introducing new colours, consider how the door will look from both inside and outside the home.

Using custom powder coat colours

If you cannot find a suitable match within our standard range, custom powder coating provides complete flexibility.

We provide access to the Dulux Powder Coatings colour chart, which offers hundreds of additional colour options.

To select a custom colour when ordering online:

  1. Choose “Non-Standard Colour” in the product builder

  2. Enter the full Dulux colour name

  3. We will manufacture your door to match

This allows you to achieve an exact colour match with your home.

Choosing the right colour for your home

Ultimately, colour selection is a personal decision. Some customers prefer a seamless match, while others use their security door to enhance the overall design of their home.

If you are unsure, neutral colours such as black, white, Surfmist, and Dune are safe and popular choices.

These colours suit most homes and remain timeless as exterior trends evolve.
