MESH SELECTION

316 marine grade stainless steel mesh – always refer to maintenance chart below or on our FAQ page when deciding on the type of mesh that is best suited for your location and environmental circumstances. Correct mesh selection and regular maintenance will keep your Seconline Security doors and windows looking good for years to come. In addition to this, our 316 stainless steel mesh is covered by a 5 year limited warranty.

PRODUCT SELECTION

Whilst it is the customers responsibility to select the correct mesh to suit their specific location and environment factors, authorised dealers will always refer their customers to the Product Selection and Maintenance Chart located on below or our FAQ page and advise that if the mesh wash is not used as part of the maintenance schedule, then the warranty will become void.

MAXIMUM CORROSION PROTECTION

When two dissimilar materials are used in contact with one another, a galvanic reaction can occur, causing corrosion. Defendoor has been designed to help eliminate contact between dissimilar metals by;

  • An easily inserted locking block to secure  the mesh sheeting to the aluminium frame, eliminating the need for crimping, screwing or clamping
  • Using an inhibiting tape to separate the mesh from the aluminium frame.
  • Powder coating the frame, mesh and locks. Mesh ash reduces corrosion and enhance the life of your Defendoor products.

1. How to measure an existing screen:

If you have existing screens and they are a good fit, then the easiest way to measure for new ones is to remeasure your old ones, ensure that you measure the recess width and advise us if it varies from the industry standard width of 11 mm.

Note: Do not take measurements from the centre in case the screen is bowed.

Screen Width: Measure from the outer edge of the frame top and bottom, record the smallest measurement. Note: There should be maximum of 3 mm variation in the two lengths, if the variation is greater contact us to discuss solutions 1300 735 405.

Screen Height: Measure the height left and right, record the smallest measurement.

Recess Width: Using a solid ruler measure the width of your recess, advise us when placing your order if your recess width is other than 11 mm.

2. How to measure for a new screen (face fixed):

Note: The safest method of measuring is to fit the screen to the face of the window and this is sometimes the only option. You would then drill through the frame of the window surround, and screw or rivet in place.

Q. Where do I measure for my window grilles?

A. Before you measure you need to establish where exactly how you are going to fix the grille to the window. There are two basic types of external fixing.

Recess fix: Our standard window grille frame is 11 mm thick at the outer wall. This is so they may be fitted into the same recess on a window as a fly screen. They can then be fixed in place by riveting or screwing to the window recess either internally or externally. As there are a large variety of window extrusions a decision has to be made by the person installing the screen.

Face fix: When there is no recessed area provided for a fly screen the grille is simply fitted to the face of the window frame either internally or externally by drilling through the frame of the window surround, and screwing or riveting in place. Great care must be given to not interfere with the operation of the window's action, E.g. Window spirals etc.

Measuring for a recess fix is difficult due to the many variations in styles. The simplest method is to remeasure the existing fly screen if it is a good fit, and a fix can be obtained. If this option is not available then you must be mindful of being able to fit the screen into the recess whilst still covering the window. Remember: Fly screens are flexible, security window screens are not.
