How to Measure Sliding Stacker Screen Doors

Follow the steps below to collect your measurements and start building your sliding screen door.

Before you start

Tracking

Please ensure you have suitable tracking before starting. For details, see our Tracking Guide. Suitable tracking can also be added during the product builder process. If your current tracking is unsuitable and you’re installing new tracking, follow the Option 3 instructions below.

Interlocks

It is also important that you familiarise yourself with interlocks. See our interlocks guide.

Important

Please view the available videos and follow the instructions carefully. Please also take note of the required deductions. We do not apply any deductions to the final measurements on your order confirmation or approved quote — the measurements you submit will be the exact ‘make size’ we manufacture to. All measurements must be taken from the outside, looking in. Measure exactly where the product will be fitted, to the millimetre.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Three Measure Options are available:

Option 1: Measure your existing screen door

If you have an existing door with the correct tracking and you're happy with the fit then we suggest that you measure this door and use these measurements for your new door.

Lock Side: Identify your lock side - either left or right, from the outside looking in.

Door Widths: Measure the top, middle and bottom widths of the screen door; send us the largest of the three measurements.

Door Height: Measure from top to bottom of the screen door on both the left and right hand sides; send us the shortest of the two measurements.

Lock Height: You can use the existing lock height if desired; first make sure that the new handle will not interfere with the existing glass door handle, by following the lock height instructions in Option 2.

Note: All FLY range doors are supplied with a latch that is installed by the customer onsite when fitting the door.

Option 2: Measure from the tracks for your new doors

If you’ve reviewed our tracking guide and have suitable tracking, follow these instructions to measure your door using the existing tracks.

Lock Side: Identify your lock side - either left or right, from the outside looking in.

Door Widths: Measure the entire distance from inside the receiving channel where the lock striker will be mounted (1.1) to the outside edge of the receiving interlock or edge of the fixed glass panel (1.2). Add 70 mm and divide this number by two, to give you your individual door sizes.

Note:  We add 70 mm to allow for the overlap where the two door panels meet when closed. This overlap reduces visual obstruction when the doors are in the closed position.

Your SecOnline sliding stacker doors come with a frame interlock for each screen panel and a receiving interlock (both a 7 mm and 3 mm for flexability) to connect the two stacking doors. You may also need to purchase an additional receiving interlock, to connect the non-active screen panel to the fixed glass panel, if your existing glass panel does not have one. Follow our interlock measure instructions, to determine the size of interlock required.

Door Heights: Measure lengths at three to four points along the track; take these measurements from inside the top track, to the bottom of the top track, deduct 12 mm from the shortest length. Your track will either have a raised rail (1.3) or it will be a flat U-shaped section (1.4).

If a variation of more than 4 mm exists this may result in the door not sliding properly, and additional tracking may have to be installed to make tracks parallel.

Lock Height: Take your lock measurement from the top of the bottom track, to the centre of where you want your lock handle. This will also be the centre of middle lock striker. This measurement must be either:

  • A minimum of 120mm above the top of your existing solid door lock (1.6), or

  • At least 60mm below the bottom of your existing door lock handle (1.7).

Note: All FLY range doors are supplied with a latch that is installed by the customer onsite when fitting the door.

Option 3: Measure the sliding door, allowing for the new tracking

Suitable tracking for SecOnline sliding screen doors can be purchased via the add-on section of the Product Builder. When using new tracking, height deductions must be taken from the overall opening, as well as the standard sliding door, to allow for correct fitment.

The instructions below apply when installing tracking into a bare opening (i.e. where no existing tracks are fitted).

Follow our interlock measure instructions, to determine the size of interlock required.

Door Height

1. Measure the full height of the opening at three to four points across the span. Take each measurement from the bottom of the opening to the top. Identify the shortest measurement.

2. From the shortest measurement, deduct:

  • 8mm for the bottom pip track

  • 8mm for the top sliding track

(total deduction: 16mm — this allows for the 8mm raise rail in both the top and bottom tracks; see 1.5)

3. Finally deduct a further 12mm from the shortest measurement, which is the standard height allowance for sliding doors

Lock Height: Take your lock measurement from the sill when your bottom track will be installed, to the centre of where you want your lock handle. This will also be the centre of middle lock striker. This measurement must be either:

  • A minimum of 128mm above the top of your existing solid door lock, or

  • At least 68mm below the bottom of your existing door lock handle .

Note: All FLY range doors are supplied with a latch that is installed by the customer onsite when fitting the door.
