French Hinged Doors Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a Triple Lock Upgrade?

A. A triple lock upgrade is a locking system that is activated from the centre locking handle position either by the chrome snib or the key and has two additional strikers at the top and bottom of the door. It makes the door more secure as there are three points where the two doors are locked together in addition to the three heavy duty hinges on the hinge sides of the door frame.

Q. Do Seconline make deductions for french hinged doors?

A. No. The measurements you provide will be the exact size fabricated.

Q. What deductions do I make?

A. We can only advise as to the standard allowances; some doors may have individual quirks. If you are measuring an existing set of screen doors the allowances will already have been made so just enter the exact measurements of eachs door. If you are measuring the door jamb for a new set of french hinged screen doors our Product Builder will guide you through how to measure the door jamb and it will make the deductions for you. The measurements you provide will be the exact measurements your door will be fabricated. Please check your tape for accuracy.

Note: The standard width deductions for french hinged doors is 15 mm off the overall widths of the door frame opening then divide by two to ascertain the individual door widths. Standard height deduction for french hinged doors is 8 mm off the shortest length. We keep both lengths the same to ensure door can be made square; a small gap may appear at the bottom of the door. This can be eliminated by installing a bug seal which can be purchased at Step 3. Addons.

Q. How do I work out which is the "Active Door"?

A. Stand outside with your solid doors closed; identify which door will have the lock, left or right, this is the active door.

Q. Does the non-active door have flushbolts to hold it closed?

A. Yes, the non-active door will be fitted with internal flushbolts to hold it shut when not in use, these are operated by a central latch below the lock hole.

Q. My doors swing inside the house, do I measure from the inside instead?

A. No, always measure from the outside looking in. If your doors swing inward let us know by stating "Inward Opening" in the delivery instructions field. We will reverse the hinges.

Q. How do I make sure my locks don't hit on each other?

A. Stand outside, close the main solid doors. Establish whether you want the new lock above the existing door handle or below.

Lock Above: Measure from the bottom sill to the top of the existing solid door handle and add 125 mm: this will be the new door handle and tongue height.

Lock Below: Measure from the bottom sill to the bottom of the existing solid door handle and deduct 60 mm: this will be the new door handle and tongue height.

Q. What if I have an existing set of french hinged screen doors and they are a perfect fit?

A. If you are happy with size of these doors, this is a good idea.

A. Yes.

Q. Does the internal snib lock the three point lock?

A. Yes.

A. No. However, if there is a bow in the hinge side jamb, then recessing or packing the middle hinge may be necessary.

Q. If I have a current door that I am replacing, and it has the hinges that have been recessed. What do I do?

A. You can either have the hinges placed to avoid the recesses and repair the existing recesses or have them placed exactly where they exist now.
